Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Compassion is a strong desire to help someone in need. However, Economists opine that “a want (in this case desire) is only effective when it becomes an effective demand, and is supported by ability. This analogy emphasizes the great difference between man and God. As humans we can have compassion and it is only a desire to help. This doesn’t make it effective. God’s compassion on the other hand is always backed up by actions and abilities!
In fact, our opening scripture says, the Lord’s compassion and love are the reasons we are not consumed for they are new every morning. John 3:16 is a clear representation of how God’s compassion is always backed up. First, God so loved us, then he gave us his only son, and this giving did not yield a one time result. It (The Passion Translation) says, whosoever believes, will never perish but experience “everlasting” life. What a great compassion!
It is just as our man of God, Pastor Binuyo Olutomiwa has said, for every morning, there is a new blessing, new favour, new mercy, new joy, new peace, fresh wisdom, and fresh strength. It is not a carry-over from the previous day, no, it is new. As you wake up, there is a fresh deposit of God’s great compassion that results in newness! Hallelujah!
An even bigger reality of God’s great compassion is the fact that it does not come by our efforts. God’s great compassion is not what we work for to receive our wages daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. Our efforts do not qualify us for His compassion, it is only by His grace and mercy. Romans 9: 16 AMPC explains, “So then [God’s gift] is not a question of human will and human effort, but of God’s mercy [It depends not on one’s own willingness nor on his strenuous exertion as in running a race, but on God’s having mercy on him.]”
Consequently, we cannot base God’s compassion towards us on our actions or inactions. However, we can be confident that once God has called and chosen us (by His grace), we are assured of His great compassion. A compassion that never fails, a compassion that is new daily, a compassion that seeks to only build us up and never leaves us stranded, a compassion that breeds hope, a compassion that is forever, a compassion that is always backed up by actions, a great compassion; HIS COMPASSION!
So, beloved! We have every cause to be joyful and full of gratitude at the dawn of a new day. This is because we are confident that regardless of the situations in each day, we can never be consumed! His love and compassion are just as his faithfulness, GREAT!
