The life of a believer is a life of obedience. Without believing in the finished works of Christ, there would be no salvation. Without consecration, studying the word, and prayer, there would be no spiritual growth or advancement. And quite similarly, without application of words, instructions, directions, promises remain just that with no fulfilment. Hence, we see how tangential obedience to all of God’s (direct/indirect, subtle/not-so-subtle) words are. If it were not important, instructions would not be littered all through the scriptures. These instructions which only give us life and life in abundance (John 10:10) are key in the life of every child of God.

Today, we want to focus on the essence of obedience in the fulfilment of promises. Let’s look at the life of the Father of Faith, Abraham. Genesis 12: 1-2 AMPC says, “Now [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others].”

Also, Jesus while on earth instructed the disciples to “wait” for the holy spirit. Acts 1:4-5 TPT says, “… and shared meals with them. Jesus instructed them, “Don’t leave Jerusalem, but wait here until you receive the gift I told you about, the gift the Father has promised. 5 For John baptized you in water, but in a few days from now you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit!”
Again, the prophet Isaiah received so great promises for the Israelites. In Isaiah chapter 60:1-2, see what the prophet’s vision entails in the MSG version, “Get out of bed, Jerusalem! Wake up. Put your face in the sunlight. God’s bright glory has risen for you. The whole earth is wrapped in darkness, all people sunk in deep darkness, But God rises on you, his sunrise glory breaks over you.”

The first thing to note from the three scriptural references is the reality of our man of God’s words. Pastor said, “for you to enter the manifestation of God’s promises, there are instructions to carry out.” Indeed, we see how it follows a pattern: Instructions ➡️ Promises ➡️ Obedience ➡️ Fulfilment. For Abraham, God said, “go for yourself to a land I will show you”, to the disciples, Jesus said, “wait here until you receive the gift I told you about”, and for the people of Israel God said, “get out of bed, wake up, put your face in the sunlight.”
Now, quickly reflect on all the promises God has given you. What instructions did you receive prior to those promises. It could be as a subtle as a ‘believe (confidently trust)’, or as loud as a ‘leave your country (get out of your comfort zone)’. The main thing is to however, obey these instructions. It does not matter the challenges. Once God has spoken and given you His promises, to get the manifestation requires obedience.
So, dearly beloved, do not just receive God’s instructions and sit on your hands or wait till it is conducive, get moving. It doesn’t matter how huge the steps you are taking, as long as you are moving in the direction of God’s instructions, the fulfilment of ALL His Promises to you is just around the corner.
