Two major concepts this blog aims to address are spirituality and understanding. As a believer, being spiritual is, in fact, beyond only an instruction. It is a way of life, your identity and reality. It entails seeing as the Spirit and being led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14).

Now, about understanding, it is the ability to perceive and interpret rightly and know thoroughly the true nature of something. It is the possession of a deeper knowledge of God’s will and ways. They know better and more clearly Him Who is true; and we are in Him Who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah). 1 John 5:20 AMPC

Clearly, as a believer, you already possess understanding and insight. But this is just the starter pack. For you to get to the point of salvation and acknowledgement, it means you have in the first instance, a superior understanding which the world does not have! Hallelujah!

Yet, the major question is; does this understanding result in spirituality?

To begin with, let’s recall, James 1:22-24. You know how the bible talks about two types of believers, one who after hearing (and now knows) applies, and one who after hearing (also now knowing) does not apply.

So, while knowledge in itself is good, understanding (insight and comprehension) is best. Understanding gives you the wisdom of knowing what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Understanding ensures you do not just hear and know. Understanding makes you experience it personally to the point of obedience and application. It is just as our man of God, Pastor Binuyo Olutomiwa has said,

Understanding makes you obedient to God’s words, to applying God’s precepts and principles with ease.

With this in mind, it is without a doubt that understanding helps you live the life of God. This is because you are not just a believer/son who knows God as His Father. You know God as your Father; you are well aware of every blessing, empowerment, virtue, passing troubles, and eternal glory attached to this sonship. Much more, you are a son ready to stick to the identity, ready to carry on the lineage by expanding the kingdom of God. You are a son who knows what the Father wants, is saying per time, and quickly responds to it. You are a son who thoroughly knows, and perceives rightly. You are a son who is led by the Spirit!

And this is a son who is spiritual! Look at how Romans 8 puts it:

But when the Spirit of Christ empowers your life, you are not dominated by the flesh but by the Spirit. Romans 8:9 TPT

Thus, if the Spirit dominates and empowers you, you are always going to be seeing as the Spirit. But first, you need to have understanding. This understanding of all things and all situations comes by staying on God’s words. You also increase in understanding through studying and meditating on the word, and in the place of prayer too. Which is why we are currently praying the Pauline prayers this season.

You, too, can join the train, possess understanding, and remain spiritual!

With love,
