“Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.” (Romans 12:11-13 MSG)

This passage beautifully illustrates fervency. While others might define it as an intense feeling, Pastor Binuyo ‘Tomiwa has taught us a deeper perspective which we would be exploring in today’s blog. Fervency is a profound level of intimacy. It is burning strongly with constant enthusiasm for Jesus like never before.

Here’s the key distinction: while the former definition highlights activity, the latter emphasizes spiritual abilities and realities. For you and I, fervency is less about strenuous effort and more about staying conscious.

You are conscious of God’s spirit at work in you. You remain conscious of the three companions on this journey (Rest, Renewal and Revival). You don’t struggle to do things or get directions because you stay intimate with God. Similarly, as per your intimacy/fervency, your mind is constantly renewed and you always have this wholesome sense of joy and peace.

Beloved, this is just how important staying conscious is. It helps you access these benefits of fervency. Furthermore, prayer is a key factor in staying fervent. It is a natural fervency ignition. Prayer is not merely a scheduled activity, it is communicating with God at all times and anywhere. A truly fervent person prays always.

“But you, my delightfully loved friends, constantly and progressively build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith by praying every moment in the Spirit.” (Jude 1:20 TPT)

As Pastor Binuyo ‘Tomiwa said, “Prayer is not a waste of time.” When we cultivate this spiritual habit of praying, we stir and sustain the fire within us.

To conclude, instead of striving or stressing on how to stay fervent, be conscious that it is God all the while at work in you (Philippians 2:13). Embracing God’s spirit and his leadings helps us stay fervent and access the spiritual realities mentioned above; but we can truly do this when we are conscious and in constant communication with God.
